PROGRESS REPORT
The Trust launched a 25th Anniversary Appeal towards the end of 2009 with the aim of trying to raise £1M within a couple of years. The appeal brochure gives full details. Whilst the ambitious target remains a considerable way off, something in excess of £35,000 has so far been secured.
This, together with a small surplus from Coastal Opera 2010, has enabled Trustees to replace its original minibus with a newer one, in excellent condition, that should give many years of reliable service.
A sum of money was given specifically to enable Trustees to employ a part-time fundraiser, who made good progress over a six month period creating a valuable database of potential sponsors and foundations. Most significantly, sufficient funds have been set aside to enable the production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo to go ahead in July 2011, a further generous private donation having brought this project more realistically within reach.
Much work remains to be done, especially in the light of the country's current economic climate which has seen a drastic reduction in public funding of all areas of the arts. It remains to be seen how successful the Trust's efforts will be in raising sufficient money to embark on the important development plans outlined in the appeal brochure.
It is at least encouraging to know that for the next twelve months at least, there will be no diminution in the Trust's educational work, and that funds continue to be found from a variety of sources.
The appeal remains open and Trustees welcome enquiries from anyone able to help
