Other Activities

The Creake Centre is regularly used for a variety of community activities, mostly involving music. If you would like to participate in these, please contact the organisers rather than the Yorke Trust.

Use your voice!

Katherine Moore, who has sung in numerous Yorke Trust operas and Easter concerts, comes to Norfolk weekly during term time to teach in Downham Market. Last season Jennifer Hamilton ran a popular series of vocal classes that Katherine has now taken over.

Rather than running yet another choir in the area, these Thursday evening classes at 18:30 are designed to develop the art of using the voice correctly, both in speaking and in singing. Emphasis is placed on good posture, breathing, poise, and other basics that help to instil confidence when speaking in public, whether it be on the stage or at functions.

Singing in is something we all do around the home from time to time, but singing in public is another matter. Katherine brushes aside much of the mystique that surrounds the art of vocal production so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether it be discovering your head voice, your chest voice, or simply making noises that perhaps befit the farmyard rather than the concert platform, the work is fun.

Places are limited to a maximum of twenty. Please contact Katherine to find out details.

Dates are:

September 15, 22, 29,

October 6, 13, 20, HALF TERM,

November 3, 10, 17, 24,

December 1, 8, 15.

THE REEL FLING

There are formal and informal groups that enjoy Scottish Reeling - this one is very informal.

Once one has mastered the essentials of teapots, odd couples, setting and casting up, the possibilities are endless.

Practice sessions cover some of the well-known dances, and from time to time new ones are added to the repertoire - all are walked through and explained first. Special events are held from time to time including a Burns Night celebration, a New Year Fling and a summer BBQ. There could hardly be a better way to keep fit, keep the mind alert, and meet new friends with similar interests - no previous experience is necessary.

Autumn sessions are held in The Old Chapel, South Creake from 20:00 - 10:30 on Wednesday 14 September, Wednesday 5 October, Wednesday 19 October, Wednesday 16 November and Saturday 26 November (St. Andrew's Night, with a special buffet). Practice sessions are £5 per person, dress informal, bar available.

Please contact Lois Carrick for details at loiscarrick21@hotmail.co.uk.

There is an optional extra of a two course meal plus coffee/tea preceding the sessions in South Creake for £6.

To book a meal, please contact Robert McNaughtan 07762 592163.
